Weekly Menu and Shopping featuring The Homegrown Paleo Cookbook by Diana Rogers

I am way jealous of Diana Rogers.  Not only is she back in my homeland of New England she gets to have goats and chickens… something unfeasible in our urban England setting at the moment… but she basically has a life I dream of.  Her newest cookbook: The Homegrown Paleo Cookbook  is not only beautiful but also contains a wealth of information for those who need some help cooking by scratch, understanding where food comes from and how it should be raised, and how to eat seasonally.  The first section of the book details how to ethically raise animals on a homestead and provides more than ample material for this country girl to day dream about (I am already picking out names for my two goats I will someday have).  The recipes are amazing and provide information for substitutions if you are like me and the only place to forage is the supermarket produce section.  The last sections of the book detail how to make basics like stocks but also new adventures I hope to take on like kombucha and kefir.  This weeks menu planning will not have all of the recipes as I really encourage you to purchase this beautiful book.  If you fall in love with Diana and covert her lifestyle you can also listen to her on the Modern Farm Girls Podcast.  So here you go… and of course your printable shopping list:

TED- Ron Finley: A guerilla gardener in South Central LA

Ron Finley plants vegetable gardens in South Central LA — in abandoned lots, traffic medians, along the curbs. Why? For fun, for defiance, for beauty and to offer some alternative to fast food in a community where “the drive-thrus are killing more people than the drive-bys.”

TED- Cary Fowler: One seed at a time, protecting the future of food

“The varieties of wheat, corn and rice we grow today may not thrive in a future threatened by climate change. Cary Fowler takes us inside a vast global seed bank, buried within a frozen mountain in Norway, that stores a diverse group of food-crop for whatever tomorrow may bring.”
